Artist’s Statement

I grew up in Montana in a family where excursions into nature were valued above all else. Time was spent on trails hiking and skiing, in mountain lakes and rivers swimming and floating, in tents, lulled to sleep by the sound of wind in the trees. Each memory is colored with patterns of light playing on trees, rocks, dirt, and water. These experiences offered me absorption of the expansive views, processing the nuanced shade and shadows before me. My paintings evoke that feeling of observer immersed in nature and the magic of coexisting with the elements.

About Kelsey Joronen

Living in small town Montana with her husband, daughters, dogs and cat, Kelsey finds time for a little peace and tranquility by painting. As a licensed Architect, she has attempted to balance the busyness and technical nature of the construction and design field by putting fluid, imperfect watercolor to the textured cotton page. She finds her joy in small, pure moments; waking up to her smiling children, walking with her dogs as they frolic in the grasses and forests, having random, impassioned conversations while driving to outdoor excursions with her husband. Each moment painting the truth of life on her memory.
